Prayer should be the heartbeat of our day and is as much part of our lives as breathing and moving. What better way then to build prayer rhythms than through natural activities such as walking or running.
You may for example use a solitary prayer walk, with each step you take forming part of your prayer. There are a number of prayers and psalms that fit well with this approach. Particularly those, which involve an element of repetition.
As well as more contemporary examples such as Graham Kendrick’s ‘Peace be to these streets’. Prayer repetition used by the contemplative tradition of Taize would also lend themselves well to this activity.
Alternatively you may decide to make a prayer walk into a communal activity. This can be particular powerful when praying for a specific community street or area.
