For hundreds of years the lighthouse has been a symbol of safety and protection – guiding ships safely away from the dangers that lurk beneath the waves, rocks hidden from view that might damage and sink unsuspecting travellers. This month we’d like to encourage you to build your very own lighthouse as a focus for your prayer activities. In doing so we are reminded that:
The lighthouse is always built on a solid foundation – able to weather even the toughest of storms. In just the same way let us always seek to “listen to your teaching and follow it wisely, like the builder who built his house on solid rock. “Though the rain may come in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.” (Matthew 7: 24 – 25)
Dear lord we give thanks that you are our foundation – the bedrock of our faith.
The lighthouse has a clear and practical purpose – to guide all who encounter it to safety. It is ready in every circumstance to fulfill this role – during good weather and in times of storm. In the same way may we always seek to guide others to safety. To share your soul saving message – the good news of hope. Let us “Go into the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” (Mark 16:15)
Dear Lord give us the courage to weather all life’s challenges as we seek to share the Gospel in a practical way with everyone we encounter.
A lighthouse can be seen from miles away – it’s light shining in the darkness. “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
Dear Lord – May our actions and responses be as light in every situation. Let your love shine through us as we seek to serve you in our communities and our homes.
In your sons precious name we pray.
